SAKHIR, Bahrain (AP) Another design controversy may be brewing in Formula One after Renault accused McLaren of starting an ``arms race'' by designing a complex rear wing.
Governing body FIA approved McLaren's system, which allows drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to close a vent inside the cockpit to stall the rear wing for extra straight-line speed.
Renault managing director Bob Bell said from the Bahrain Grand Prix on Friday that ``it is fundamentally clear that the McLaren wing design is totally illegal.''
F1 has been trying to cut costs over the previous seasons and Bell believes FIA is being ``ridiculous'' in green-lighting the design.
Red Bull had also expressed opposition to wing.
