HINWIL, Switzerland (AP) Rookie Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi has renewed his contract with Sauber for the 2011 Formula One season.
Kobayashi, who turns 24 next week, is 12th in the drivers' standings with 21 points. His best finish was sixth place at the British Grand Prix.
Team principal Peter Sauber says that Kobayashi ``has definitely fulfilled our expectations in terms of his speed and fighting spirit.''
Sauber says ``our aim is to give him a fast and reliable car from the outset next season.''
Kobayashi retired in six of his first eight races but has since put together a string of good results.
Sauber says the team's second driver for 2011 will be announced at a later date. Current driver Pedro de la Rosa has only six points.
