DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Matt Connolly Motorsports (MCM) has entered its No. 19 Maxwell Paper Corvette in this weekend's Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park. Ross Smith and Andy Lally will co-pilot the No. 19 in the GT class of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 (SPEED, live, 1:30 p.m. ET Saturday).
Smith is coming off an excellent start to the 2010 season after dominating the first two races of the Patron GT3 Challenge in Sebring, claiming two poles, two fastest laps and two victories. Smith has run successfully in GT at Barber Motorsports Park in the past and will be making his debut with MCM this weekend.
"I am very thankful for the backing of Maxwell paper products to put me into another great opportunity for even more experience," Smith said. "I'm very excited to be with MCM at Barber. I think this car has great potential and we are willing to put on an amazing show."
Lally will also be making his debut with MCM this weekend. Lally has three wins in GRAND-AM competition at Barber Motorsports Park, the most of any driver since the track opened in 2003. He is also third in Rolex Series GT points coming into the weekend.
"Matt and I have been friends for many years and it will be great to team up with him for the first time and see if we can get the No. 19 to the front," Lally said. "I am also really happy to be with Ross, I was watching him in his first two races this season and he was flying. We have worked together before and we always have fun together so I am hoping this weekend will be more of the same. I owe a big thanks to Maxwell Paper and MCM for putting this together and making this happen, I came into this week very down because I am third in the GT Championship at the moment and its never easy to stand down in that situation, so for these guys to come through for Ross and I is great."
Matt Connolly is also happy to be heading to Barber.
"Working with Andy and Ross is an ideal situation," Connolly said. "They are both quick and disciplined, smart in traffic and know how to stay out of trouble. I have been waiting for drivers like this for the 'Vette and I couldn't ask for more."
