IRL adding oval, street course titles to mix

INDIANAPOLIS −The IndyCar Series will reward points winners for its two racing disciplines oval courses and street and road courses with their own titles this season in addition to crowning an overall points champ.

The chase for the road/street course title will end on Aug. 22 at Infineon Raceway in California. The oval course chase will end on Sept. 19 in Motegi, Japan. The season finale on Oct. 2 at Homestead, Florida will recognize the overall champ.

The IRL said on Tuesday that each of the winning drivers and teams will earn bonuses. The prize money will be announced later.
