Championship Series Races include the September 1st, 22nd & October 6 and 27th events.  Locations for the October 6th and 27th events will be announced at a later date.

2012 Race Format:  All races on the 2012 schedule will be 250 laps in length; will include live pit stops and double-file restarts.  “Keeping live pit stops, introducing double-file restarts and running 250 laps at each event were decisions that were made 100% with the fans in mind.  Heavy stock cars, on short tracks, running 250 laps with live pit stops and double-file restarts should provide one of the best shows available to race fans today.  We were adamant about keeping our series at the forefront of racing entertainment as well as driver development,” commented Series President Jack McNelly.

2012 Tire Rules: The biggest change for the 2012 season will come in the new tire rules.  The Pro Cup Series will change from a radial tire, to a bias-ply tire for 2012.  A number of tire tests will be conducted over the next few weeks to determine the 2012 tire supplier.  The change is expected to save race teams between $800-$900 per event this season.

2012 Weekly Purse and Points Fund:  The weekly race purse will increase over 2011 awards.  Race winners will again receive $5,300, with positions 2-15 being increased over last season, with a total purse increase of 9.8%.

A season-ending Points Fund will be created this season, with the total cash awards based on series ticket sales at events.  A percentage of ticket sales during the 2012 season will be dedicated to the new points fund, with the 2012 Series Champion receiving 20% of the fund at the season ending Champion’s Banquet.  The Top-12 finishers will receive cash awards from the fund.

“It was very important to me that we develop some form of a points fund for our teams this year.  Under this formula, everyone has a vested interest in helping to grow our series through ticket sales at our events this season and the race teams will earn revenue at the end of the season for their efforts,” said McNelly.
