MIDLOTHIAN, VA – Chesterfield’s finest might need to set up a traffic check on the backstretch on Friday night at
Southside Speedway. At least four of the competitors in Friday night’s U-Car race will be competing without a VA Driver’s License. That’s because they aren’t old enough to have one yet! For the first time in track history, four 14 year old rookies will be competing in Friday night’s Twin 20 lap U-Car races. Car #1, Connor Brown; #79 Lane Janosik; #98 Taylor Sarkees and #9 Alex Brock will all be on the track together for the first time when the green flag falls Friday night. Not only will they have to battle each other, but U-Car veterans (old timers compared to our rookies) Mike Chapman, Jamie Hite, Rusty Bennett and the rest of the regulars won’t be cutting them any slack as they look to pick up some valuable points in the Twin races. Regular school might be coming towards the end of the year, but the four rookies’ School of Southside begins Friday. Might the next “Denny Hamlin” be in the graduating class?
The Late Models are scheduled for a 100 lap feature Friday night and everyone will be trying to figure out a way of catching Chris Dodson. Dodson, the point’s leader, has been on a roll by picking up 3 of the 4 checkered flags on the season, but Chris Johnson is only 6 points back in second with Raymond Pittman, Jeff Oakley and Eddie Johnson round out the Top 5 in points. Friday night will also mark the return of the Modifieds for a 50 lap feature. Thomas Stinson picked up his first win since 2010 on April 13th, but Chris Hopkins, Mike Rudy and Michael Johnson will be trying to keep him from picking up win number 2. Also on the card, the Street Stocks will battle for 30 laps and the Champ Karts will have a 20 lap showdown. Gates open at 6:00pm, Qualifying at 6:45pm and Racing gets underway at 7:30pm.
