BERLIN (AP) Michael Schumacher remains optimistic about the outlook for his Mercedes team and insists that it is already showing improvements, despite a lackluster start to his comeback season.
The seven-time world champion finished 10th in Sunday's Australian Grand Prix following a collision with Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso. But Schumacher, who finished sixth in the season's first race in Bahrain, said Monday that Mercedes ``did improve'' in Melbourne.
He said both he and teammate Nico Rosberg could have qualified two or three positions higher giving them a chance of challenging for the podium.
Schumacher said on his Web site that ``all that means we are not too far away, and I am quite confident there will be more to come.''
