Darlington, SC, August 30th, 2010: This weekend Lance Fenton was driving the NO. 47 Rick Ware Racing, Chevrolet Silverado at Chicagoland Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
This was the Tyler, Texas native's second start at the Joliet, Illinois track. Back in 2008 he raced an ARCA car at Chicagoland Speedway. This year, JC Whitney/Lilly Trucking was the primary sponsor, and fentonautogroup.com along with Eagle's Bluff Country Club were the associate sponsors.
On Thursday night, Fenton hit the track for the first practice session. He completed practice in the 31st position with a time of 33.411. His teammate, Ken Butler III (NO. 6) was 32nd in practice with a time of 33.959.
Fenton said, "Man it was a tough day. The truck is hitting in the middle of the splitter causing it to shoot up the track. It is very frustrating as we try to fix this issue. This problem is setting us back a second a lap, and we have to figure it out, or we won't be up to speed. We have a lot of work to do, and I believe if we don't make vast improvements, we won't even have a top 20 truck this weekend."
Fenton didn't make any laps in the final practice as they were taking huge swings at trying to fix the setup that they already had. Ken Butler III was 33rd in the final practice with a lap time of 35.430. NASCAR was experimenting their new qualifying process as two trucks hit the track at the same time. Lance Fenton qualified 32nd with a time of 33.732, and Ken Butler III's truck was set by owner's points.
Fenton was making his way through the field during the race until an oil line came loose on lap 79, and the truck went up in smoke. He was running 25th at the time of the chaos. The crew did repair the line, but Fenton lost a few laps in the process.
Lance Fenton said, "Man what a weekend! We tried hard to make that truck go, but it just wasn't there for us this weekend. We lost an oil line and created a nice little smoke show. Once it was repaired we had gone down a couple of laps. The Lord blessed us all with a safe race and kept us out of trouble. We will now focus all our sights and attention on Texas."
Fenton didn't lose anymore positions as the truck got back up to speed. He finished the night off in the 25th position. Ken Butler III finished not too far behind in 27th. Now, Lance Fenton is looking ahead to Texas Motor Speedway on November 5th. He is very excited to have the chance to race in front of the hometown crowd in the "Lone Star State."
