Mooresville, NC, (Aug. 31, 2010) - TRG Motorsports and Bobby Labonte are ready for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Emory Healthcare 500 to be run at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday evening, September 5. Labonte will be behind the wheel of the No. 71 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet Impala SS out of the TRG Motorsports stable.
Labonte, the 2000 Sprint Cup Series Champion, performance stats prove that Atlanta is his best all time track. The Texan has posted six wins at the track, located just 20-miles south of Atlanta (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2003).
"I love going fast, I love Atlanta, it's a driver's track," Labonte said. "I love that part about it. You have to handle so well there. If your car doesn't handle well you are in for a long day. You can move around, there is more than one groove. If you're not working at the top you can go right up against the wall. The track allows you to carry your momentum and make passes."
The race will be run under the lights Sunday evening.
"I like racing Atlanta at night. It just adds a cool element to the whole weekend. With that said, it is only a two day event, so everything is compressed especially on Saturday. We need to unload with a car that is pretty close to what we want to race. Dan (Stillman, TRG Motorsports crew chief) and the guys have a good Atlanta set-up, so I hope we just have to adjust on it to suit the track conditions of the moment. Handling is a real premium at Atlanta. Even though you can really carry speed, you have to be able to handle."
Kevin Buckler, team principal, has his team ready for Atlanta.
"The weekend off allowed our guys to recharge their batteries and catch-up in the shop," Buckler said. "Atlanta is very much a home race for Augusta based TaxSlayer.com and we are looking forward to having a strong run with them this weekend. Dan has put together a good car and we will give Bobby every opportunity to be successful on Sunday night."
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Emory Healthcare 500 from Atlanta Motor Speedway will be televised live on ESPN starting at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 5. Qualifying will be televised live on the SPEED Channel starting at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 4.
